Skincare routines can get pricey, but they don’t have to break the bank! With our secrets to help you save, you can keep that youthful glow—and keep your money, too!
Following the latest trends on Instagram? Then you know that skincare can get a little on the pricey side. But there’s good news! With a few secrets, you can have Insta-ready skin—without the enormous price tag. Here are some of our favorite affordable hacks!
Dry skin, oily skin, or somewhere in between? This is a key piece of information to have because with it, you might be able to skip certain parts of the “traditional” skincare routine. If you have oily skin, for example, you can likely skip expensive heavy creams and just stick with a light moisturizer.
For some of us, those 10-step skincare routines are soothing. For the rest of us? We want to go to bed rather than spending a ton of time layering products. Fortunately, you can trim that skincare routine back to the basics. Pick a cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF, and you’ll be good to go. If you want a little extra moisture, consider adding an eye cream or hydrating serum to the mix.
Got a counter full of clutter? Minimize the clutter with multitasking products. One example is micellar water formulated as a cleanser so you can cleanse in the AM and remove your makeup in the PM.
Most of us don’t think about makeup as skincare—but it can be! Think foundations with SPF or moisturizing ingredients, or lip glosses and lipsticks that double as balms. More ways to multitask means more ways to save!
If you have favorite ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycolic acid, or retinoids, do your research on a variety of brands. You might find a dupe (duplicate ingredients, non-brand name) that is far less expensive than prestige brands!
Love makeup removing or facial cleansing wipes? So do we! But they can get expensive when you’re using them daily. If the wipes you’re using are on the larger side, try cutting them in half. Most of us don’t need the whole square for each use. This way, a package of wipes will last twice as long!
You could spend $40 on a high-end sugar scrub…or you could spend a small fraction of that on sugar and your favorite oil to make your own scrub! Add essential oils or other fragrances to the mix for affordable luxury.
Masks can get pricey, but here again, you can make your own and save some green! Look for reusable sheet masks (usually made from silicone), spread your favorite oil, essence or blend over your face, and use the mask to keep it moist.
For clay masks, invest in an inexpensive jar of bentonite clay and some apple cider vinegar. These two ingredients will mix up hundreds of clay masks for only a few bucks—and you can add extras like aloe or hyaluronic acid essence to customize your masks your way.
How could this trick save you money? Simple! Skincare products absorb into your skin better when your skin is still damp after cleansing. This makes them more effective—and that means you’ll get more bang for your buck. You may even find that you don’t have to use quite as much or quite as many skincare products to get the same result.
Just because nothing comes out when you use a pump bottle or squeeze tube doesn’t mean it’s empty! When bottles and tubes of skincare ingredients get that low, use scissors or whatever tool works best to open up the packaging. Often, there is a lot more product left that you can scrape out with a small spatula. Store the remainder in a small jar and keep on using it!
