DIY Toilet Cleaning Fizz Bombs

How can you add some fun to cleaning the bathroom? You might have heard of bath bombs, but have you ever tried a toilet fizz bomb? They're cheap, easy to make, and fun to use! This is an excellent project for kids to get involved in! No kids? No worries, grownups are also allowed to have fun cleaning their toilets! Keep them for yourself, gift them, or stock up to make busy times a little quicker, easier, and full of joy!

What goes into a toilet fizz-bomb?

Toilet fizz bombs are made with cheap, widely available ingredients. You might need to stock up on a few ingredients, but there's nothing expensive or strange on the list!

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup citric acid
  • 1 Tbsp hydrogen peroxide
  • 1/2 tsp vinegar
  • 40 drops of essential oil of your choice

Do I need the essential oil?

The essential oil will make your toilet smell beautiful. Lemon, rosemary, or rose geranium are lovely options, but feel free to use what you like or have on hand. No essential oils? No problem! Simply leave it out, or add some citrus peels, herbs, or lavender leaves to your vinegar! Let the fragrances soak into the vinegar for a few days (up to 2 weeks), and then use it in place of regular vinegar! Find the full instructions here.

And what about equipment?

The equipment you'll need to make these toilet fizz bombs couldn't be simpler! All you need is a mixing bowl, some sort of mold, and an airtight container to store your bombs in. Silicon ice cube trays make a great mold, but feel free to use what you have on hand!

Let's get mixing!

To make your toilet fizz bombs, gather your ingredients and equipment and then follow these easy steps:

  1. Mix baking soda and citric acid in a mixing bowl
  2. Add your essential oils to the bowl
  3. In a separate, small bowl (or small spray bottle) mix the hydrogen peroxide and vinegar
  4. Slowly add the liquid to the dry ingredients in the mixing bowl. Take care to mix everything well as you go. If you add it too fast, the ingredients will start reacting. You might not need all the liquid - just add enough to make it feel like damp sand.
  5. Press your mixture into the molds and leave it to dry for 2 or 3 days. It should be properly dry.
  6. Store your fizz bombs in an airtight container until you need them.

Fizz bomb fun!

When you're ready to use your fizz bombs, simply drop one or two into your toilet bowl, leave them for a few minutes, then scrub clean, and flush. What a fun way to freshen your toilet on busy days!
