Make Your Own Peppermint Mocha Martini at Home

$20 for a cocktail? That’s the average cost you’ll see in many bars these days, not to mention adding gratuity for the server.

The good news is, that you don’t have to sacrifice your love of holiday libations just to protect your wallet. Save money on holiday drinks with budget-friendly mixology.

This peppermint mocha martini recipe tastes delicious and is so simple to make. Whip this up and enjoy it in the comfort of your home over the holiday season.

Ingredients for a peppermint mocha martini

First, gather your cocktail ingredients and gear to mix up this tasty beverage. To make 1 cocktail, you’ll need:

  • 3 ounces chocolate liqueur
  • At least 1 tsp. chocolate syrup
  • 1 ounce peppermint schnapps
  • 2 ounces espresso liqueur or Irish cream liqueur
  • Enough ice cubes to fill a cocktail shaker or tall glass halfway
  • Garnish of choice: candy canes, peppermint candies, and/or fudge mint cookies

For a classic martini, you’ll want to use a martini glass for the drink. You’ll also use a cocktail shaker to mix up the ingredients. If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, you can stir instead of shake the ingredients in a regular glass. You'll also need a cocktail strainer for pouring the drink.

How to make a peppermint mocha martini

Let’s get mixing! Once you have your ingredients, you can start sipping in 5 minutes or less with this fast cocktail recipe.

  1. First, crush up your garnish of choice. You can use a rolling pin or mortar and pestle to smash the candy canes, peppermint candies, and/or fudge mint cookies. You can also save a whole candy cane or whole peppermint candy to insert inside the cocktail as a final garnish if you’d like.
  2. Pour some chocolate syrup to coat a small flat plate. Press the top of the martini glass into the syrup to coat it. You can also drizzle some extra chocolate syrup inside the glass.
  3. Pour the crushed-up garnish onto the flat plate. Dip the coated martini glass into the garnish.
  4. Fill the cocktail shaker or mixing glass with ice.
  5. Add the chocolate liqueur, peppermint schnapps, and espresso or Irish cream liqueur into the cocktail shaker or glass. Shake or stir to mix the ingredients.
  6. Strain the mixture into your martini glass (use a sieve if you don't have a cocktail strainer).
  7. Garnish the martini with a candy cane or peppermint candy, if desired.

This drink is best served cold, so you can also store the peppermint schnapps and/or martini glass in the freezer for about 30 minutes before you make the cocktail. Adjust the recipe based on how many cocktails you’ll be making. You can typically prepare two in a single shaker or glass, and then divide them. Cheers!
